My global faith community The United Methodist Church are praying for the folks in Oklahoma who were impacted by the tornadoes that devastated parts of the state this afternoon. May God grant healing and comfort tonight and in the days to come.
The spirit can move in a small Church.God is good.
Studying World Religions at Church - My small group at church is doing a study of major world religions to see what they are all about. The study is to compare and contrast these other faiths with Christianity. Many churches engage in such study to learn how to relate to those who are different from us and also to see how we can work with one another.
For me, I am secure in my faith enough to see what’s out there. Tonight we studied Hindusim and I was surprised how much of it sounds like Christian teachings. This study is going to bring an whole new perspective on the world. I took a survey of world religions in college and much of what I have learned in the past has helped me with this study we are doing at Church.
The art work above depicts Vishnu a god of the Hindu faith.
The best of all is, God is with us.
My Super Sunday
It’s been a very blessed day. Laura and I went to Waffle House for breakfast, then to church for great worship and fellowship at White Oak UMC. I helped in the sacrament of communion today. Then hung out with the youth to help them in their preparation for the upcoming flea market. Tonight Laura and I had taco salad for dinner in observance of Cinco de Mayo. It’s raining again too. Thank you God for the day. Now its time for rest.
Church Flea Market Prep - Each year my church puts on a flea market to support the youth ministries there. Today after worship I helped begin the setup of the fellowship hall where we have the sale. I also did some pickups of items from some church members. Our goal is to raise funds for the youth but also it can be a way to reach out to the community. Its all a part of serving Christ while giving people a good bargain too. The sale is Saturday at White Oak United Methodist Church at 7am and runs til 1pm.
Is there white smoke? by guardiannews.com
This is a great site to follow online to keep track of the Papal Conclave and the most famous smoke stack in the world. Click on this site to see if a new Pope has been chosen. Black smoke = no Pope, white smoke = Pope.
The Papal Conclave Begins

Today is the first day of the Papal Conclave, the process in which a new Pope will be selected. Cardinals from around the globe have come to The Vatican to choose who will lead the Catholic Church. This is an important decision to be made. It combines a lot of different factors. Personal choice and The Holy Spirit are significant factors in this choice. Whoever is chosen, there are a lot of serious things that must be addressed which has been documented in the news. The person selected also must be able to communicate the Gospel in a way that strengthens the Church and brings people to Christ.
I am not a Catholic but the Pope does impact the greater Christian community. As a leader of the Roman Catholic Church he leads over a billion people. The Vatican is also a independent nation too. It’s a position that has impact globally.
My prayers are with them as they meet this week. Everyone will be on chimney watch to see when the new Pope will be chosen. Challenging and exciting times are ahead.
Mark Sandlin: 10 Things Church Can Learn From Geeks
As the Church continues it’s slow and laborious downward-turned death spiral, geek culture continues to boom! After just a little thought, it’s not hard to see why.
We got these apples at Church this morning as a reminder of the goodness of God’s bounty and what real food is. Thanks Pastor Amy. - @tonyburgess1969- #webstagram
